Apple Fries

Filed under: Uncategorized — vegcookingandbaking @ 3:05 am

Got the recipe for this from How to Cook Everything. They were so good; crunchy on the outside, yet savory and sweet on the inside. Recipe is for 4 servings.

1 cup flour + extra
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup beer or sparkling water
1 egg
Oil for frying
Optional: Add some cinnamon, sugar, vanilla, or powdered sugar to batter

In a deep pan, add at least 2 inches of oil (I used vegetable oil). As oil heats up, prepare the batter and slice the apples into slices resembling fries (I did this before I heated the oil). Roll or dip the slices into flour, then dip in batter. Add to oil, and cook until golden brown. The book said to not overcrowd the fries, and to make batches, but I didn’t have a lot of time so I cooked them all together and it was fine. However, I only made two servings.
